    Motivation Monday Vol 1

    July 10, 2017

During my time away from writing I thought about ways to improve my blog and my writing. I want my content to not only highlight our journey to becoming debt free, but highlight who we are and what we are doing, listening to, reading, and more this month. This could be anything!

    Music:

Since I started to train for my half marathon, I am listening to a lot more music each week. This week I am listening to the Moana soundtrack basically on repeat. It is just the right kind of upbeat music that helps make me smile during a run and kick my feet a little higher.

I listen to music on Spotify and really enjoy the service! I find it to be a little more customizable than Apple Music and I’m not afraid I’m going to accidentally purchase a song while I’m listening.

    Food Cravings:

I had NO IDEA how amazing balsamic vinegar was until this last month!! Oh goodness, I have been adding that and Italian dressing on my chicken. Then I cook it in a crockpot for 6-8 hrs. Absolute perfection! My mouth is watering just thinking of it!

    Reading:

I am currently reading The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. I have had this HUGE 700+ pg book for years and I have never opened it, so I figured it was time to actually read it! Have you read it before? What are you reading now? I am on the waitlist for Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover at my local library. Hopefully, I will get that sometime soon!

    Side Hustle:

Tyler has been working weekends to help bring in more income, and this past weekend I had my second garage sale of the year. It was a HUGE success! I made over $300! We were able to get rid of a lot of big items that were just wasting space. The only bummer was I didn’t sell a lot of our clothes. But we might be having one final garage sale before the summer is over. I honestly don’t want to just donate a lot of the clothes we are trying to sell. They may not be the best quality, but I think if we store them for a bit longer, we could possibly go “shopping” through those clothes when we need clothes in the future.

    Christmas Saving:

I have been seeing on Instagram a lot, where people are checking in on their sinking funds. Believe it or not, we are halfway to Christmas. I know, it is crazy to think of! We are currently at about $550 in the Christmas sinking fund. We decided to continue keeping holiday gifts as inexpensive as we can, and all the rest will go towards debt. Also, if Murphy* comes to the door and our emergency isn’t enough, we are covered!

    Added Budget Items:

Some new/adjusted budget line items this month are:

    1. We are going to try CrossFit for a month! I get a discount through my work and Tyler and I have been looking to kick our fitness up. In order to accommodate this change, we are actually going to cancel his gym membership.
    2. Baby Shower gift! My sister is going to be a MOM!! I am so so so excited for her and we are having her baby shower this month! In the budget, it went!
    3. I was able to attend a focus group this week where I received $75! It was given in a prepaid credit card so I will be using that money for groceries this month! Yay!

Do you have any new line items on your budget this month? What are you listening to, reading, craving? I want to know all of the things!

Also, don’t forget to check out my social media! I post almost every day for your daily motivation and keeping myself accountable to you guys!

*Who is Murphy? Well, he is the guy that comes knocking at the door to cause chaos and to make you dip into your emergency fund! We don’t like Murphy!
